The Center for Integrative Pain Neuroimaging (CiPNI, or ‘bird’ in Lojban) is a new collaborative research effort initiated by Vitaly and colleague Marco Loggia!
For an introduction to CiPNI, take a look at the mission statement below and check back soon for more updates!
The mission of the Center for Integrative Pain NeuroImaging (CiPNI) is to develop and promote brain-based multi-disciplinary approaches to pain and symptom management. At our Center, “Integrative” has a dual meaning. It refers to Integrative Pain Medicine, which represents a system of interdisciplinary health care that integrates physical, psychological, and social factors for preventive and therapeutic pain management. It also refers to Integrative Neuroimaging, whereby data collected with technologies such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and MagnetoEncephaloGraphy (MEG) are synergistically combined to enhance understanding of structure / function relationships in the central nervous system. An integrative approach to pain medicine and neuroimaging promises to further our understanding of the brain’s central role in pain disorders and advance both diagnosis and therapeutic options for patients suffering from chronic pain and other aversive symptomatology.
