Lizbeth Ayoub Ph.D

I am a neuroscientist with a keen interest in pain research, gut-brain mechanisms, and integrative medicine. I completed my PhD in the Collaborative Program in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto, Krembil Brain Institute and Toronto Western Hospital with Dr. Massieh Moayedi and Dr. Mary Pat McAndrews. During my PhD, I focused on understanding the role of the hippocampus in pain processing, using neuroimaging and sensory testing in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy. I am currently a Research Fellow at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Harvard Medical School. I am investigating gut-brain mechanisms using advanced neuroimaging in patients with functional dyspepsia, with Dr. Roberta Sclocco. As part of the Center for Integrative Pain Neuroimaging Center, I am passionate about research in integrative therapies as I have a background in Traditional Chinese medicine, notably acupuncture and herbal medicine. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the city, and visiting museums and galleries.
